extraORDINARYwomen

As women ourselves, with an active interest in amplifying overlooked or marginalised voices, both past and present, we were very excited to have the opportunity to work with the Linen Hall Library on this innovative programme.

extraORDINARYwomen celebrated women’s roles in cultural, social and political change in Northern Ireland since 1965, through public engagement with the library’s existing collections and a range of interventions to develop and diversify those collections.

Through a series of creative workshops, we invited women to reflect on their lived experiences in Northern Ireland through exploring, and responding to, the extraORDINARYwomen archive. Participants made visual responses in a range of media, which enriched the archive with new perspectives and stories. Some volunteered to have their story recorded as an oral history interview.

We are immensely grateful to members of HereNI, University of Atypical, Anaka, Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network, Building Communities Resource Centre and Clonduff Development Enterprise for giving so generously of their time and their perspectives to the project.
