We partnered with For Your Freedom and Ours in marking twenty years since Poland joined the EU in 2004 and Polish people came to live in Northern Ireland in large numbers.
The Polish community is our largest minority ethnic community, but their history and heritage in Northern Ireland is little documented and poorly understood. Working collaboratively with the project lead, Maciek Bator, we helped address that gap.
Together, we carried out a series of individual and group interviews across Northern Ireland, exploring the lived experiences of Polish people and their children, many of whom have been born here. The outcomes of that research formed the basis of an online resource, as well as an exhibition and programme of events, sharing Polish heritage and celebrating the contribution of Polish people to Northern Ireland.
